Classification Systems used by Sport for Competitors in Disability Events |

Sports use various classification systems when designing competitive sporting structures for athletes with disabilities. In school sport, classification systems exist for competitors with disabilities that follow the International Paralympic Committee guidelines. School Sport is working closely with the Australian Paralympic Committee to provide students with opportunity to gain classification. A number of classification days have been proposed for 2007 and will be added to as required - Classification Days. In 2007, it is proposed that students with disabilities participating at stae championships in Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field will at least need National Provisional Classification. For intellectually disabled students - a Disability Confirmation form will be equired from your school consellor. A laymans guide to classification is available for the following sports; Current Advertised Classification Days Classifier Expression of Interest The Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who are interested in becoming national or international classifiers in a wide range of sports.
