The Active After-school Communities Program |

The Active After-school Communities program is the major component of the Australian Government’s ‘Building a Healthy Active Australia’ package which is a cross-government response to the growing problem of declining physical activity and poor eating habits of primary school-aged children. The program is designed to run in primary schools and Child Care Benefit Approved After-school Care Centres for at least one hour in the under-utilised after school environment of 3pm to 5:30pm. AASC Objectives? To enhance physical activity of Australian primary school aged children through a nationally coordinated program, that provides opportunities for inclusive participation in quality, safe and fun physical activities. To grow community capacity and stimulate local community involvement in sport and physical activity to increase participation levels. What support is available for Primary Schools? Funding grants to contribute to delivery costs. These costs could include: • Provision of teacher/staff supervision • Delivery fees • Purchase of equipment • Re-organisation of transport to accommodate travel needs of students A dedicated Regional Coordinator to assist with potential program deliverers A register of endorsed deliverers.
