014. Brilliant Hit Out for NSW Tennis Juniors

19 October 2007

A number of our young players have been making a name for themselves recently.

Joey Swaysland (Sydney Distance Education HS) was a member of the winning Australian Team at the U14s Junior World Championships earlier in the year. Joey was one of a team of three, who made their presence felt in the Czech Republic where they competed against the world’s best juniors for this title.

At the Optus Australian Spring Nationals in Traralgon, Victoria, this week our NSW junior boys and girls excelled. This tournament is held for players 16 years and under.

Boys’ 16s Singles Final

Jarryd Chaplin (Distance Education HS).

Jarryd Chaplin   defeated   Stephen Hoh (Vic) (6-7, 6-4, 6-2)

Jarryd is the son of Amanda Tobin who reached the quarter- finals of the French, US and Wimbledon Opens and the semi-finals of the Australian Open on numerous occasions in her career. Jarryd and his partner also reached the Doubles Final which was abandoned.

Girls’ 16s Singles Final

Mia Vriens (Galston HS)
Elizabeth Searl (Camden Haven HS)

Mia Vriens    defeated    Elizabeth Searl (6-1, 6-3)

Mia and Elizabeth have been very good friends from the age of nine years and have played each other on numerous occasions.

Girls’ 16s Doubles

All four girls to reach the final were from NSW.

Mia Vriens (Galston HS)
Emma Ford (Illawarra SHS)
Elizabeth Searl (Camden Haven HS)

Unfortunately due to numerous rain delays this final was abandoned.  All finalists will receive a commemorative trophy.

Congratulations to these outstanding young tennis players.
