Jane began her teaching career in 1977 at Cobar PS before moving to Menindee Central School after six months and teaching there until the end of 1978. In 1979 Jane moved on to Bletchington PS in Orange before moving to Kelso PS, in Bathurst where she taught for nearly twenty five years. As a youngster Jane went to Forbes PS. She was a NSWPSSA Athletics finalist for her age in the 100yds. In 1967 Jane was a member of the Forbes PS winning 4 x 100yds relay team at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships. This was a very big thing in the town in those days, Jane said when they returned home they were treated like Olympic champions. Jane went on to Forbes HS to complete her schooling, where her love of softball began and she went on to represent the school and Western Region in Athletics and Softball. Jane trained at Wagga Teachers College and then commenced her teaching career. While Jane was teaching in Menindee she took up Squash. In those days Jane had to travel the 110km trip each way along a dirt road to Broken Hill to play on weekends and sometimes weeknights. When squash was at its peak in the 80s and early 90s Jane travelled to Sydney to compete in the 1st grade competition. Jane won many country and regional squash titles and was local champion in Bathurst for many years. At Kelso PS, Jane was involved with Softball, Hockey and Athletics. In 1987 Jane was elected as Softball convener for the Western Region and ran the local knockout competitions and selected the regional teams. From 1993-2000 Jane was manager/coach of the Western Regional Boys’ team at the NSWPSSA Championships. From 2000-05 Jane was manager/coach of the Western Region Girls’ team. Jane assisted at the Bathurst District Athletics Carnival and was manager of the Bathurst team at the Western Region Athletics Championships for numerous years. Jane was manager/coach of the Kelso PS hockey teams the year the school won both the boys and girls NSWPSSA Knockout Championships an outstanding performance. Jane is remembered for her enduring commitment to her students and school sport. Jane believed that school sport was important for character building and a very vital way of instilling in her students confidence and self belief. This was borne out by the many letters the family received from students she had guided and worked with during her career. Jane is survived by her husband, Greg, and her daughters Lisa and Sherrin.
