Denison Secondary College Kelso Campus travelled 700.4 kilometres in a day to play a NSWCHS knockout match in the Marie Cornish Cricket Competition. This scheduled match in the Western Region was played on Monday 29 October. Graeme Hangar and Jane Sanson staff, from Kelso High, picked up the first student at 5.10am. They left Kelso at 5.45am with their girls’ team and one boy student; who went along to umpire. The match was played against the composite central schools team from Tullibigeal, Ungarie and Lake Cargelligo. This team was made up with 6 girls from Tullibigeal, a school with about 25 students in the secondary section, and 4 girls from Lake Cargelligo. Both cricket teams in the match only had 10 players. The team from Kelso High won. Graeme Hangar jokingly said he would have left the team behind if they hadn’t performed up to expectations. The victorious team arrived home at 5.45pm. This is just one example of a day in the life of staff dedicated to providing their students with a worthwhile and challenging experience in school sport. | |
