033. STATE’S TOP YOUNG SWIMMERS ON SHOW AT HOMEBUSH |

The State’s best young swimmers will be competing at the Sydney Aquatic Centre, Homebush on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th April 2008 in the N.S.W. Primary Schools Sports Association (P.S.S.A.) Swimming Championships. The P.S.S.A. Championships will see more than 1500 young swimmers from government and non-government schools across N.S.W. compete in two days of high level competition. Competitors this year will be striving to be selected in the Pacific School Games swimming team which will compete at the 8th Pacific School Games to be held in Canberra in December. Ross Hallaways, N.S.W. P.S.S.A. Swimming Convener, said that swimmers of the calibre of Ian Thorpe, Petria Thomas, Scott Miller, Ky Hurst, Kenrick Monk, Justin Norris and Brooke Hanson first came to prominence at these Championships. “A total of 60 officials will preside over the event with more than 3000 spectators expected to witness the competition” Mr Hallaways said. The State Primary School’s Swimming Championships are part of the School Sport Foundation which is supported by Sydney Markets, Integral Energy and N.S.W. Health. The Championships are also supported financially by Eyeline. Most Finals will be held between 12.30 pm and 3.00 pm on both days of competition.
