040. Sibling Success at NSWPSSA Swimming

14 April

The NSWPSSA Swimming Carnival was held on Monday 7 April and Tuesday 8 April.

At this carnival twins, Emily and Sam Gray, from Coomamble Public School from the North West Region competed in the 8yrs 50m Freestyle.  Sam Gray made it to the final and came fourth.

The twins were escorted down to the pool deck, with their manager, to view the Harold Hardwick trophy.  This was the highlight of the carnival for the twins.  Their dad, Phillip Gray, also a student of Coonamble Public School in 1968 had won the Open 100m Freestyle at the State Carnival. Their faces lit up with pride when they saw their dad’s name on the impressive trophy amongst such notables as Graham Windeatt (Revesby PS 1966), Ian Thorpe (Milperra PS 1994) and Kendrick Monk (Marayong PS 1999.2000)

Congratulations Emily and Sam Gray on your achievements.

Blake Byrne (Ryde East PS) won the Boys 8yrs 50m Freestyle.  In 1980 his mother Daile Peters (Ryde East PS) won the Open 100m Freestyle.  Her name is on the Bill Findlay trophy.  Two former female competitors who represented Australia on the trophy are Leigh Habler (Malabar PS 1987) and Natasha Bowron (Clempton Park PS 1993).

Well done Blake Byrne.
