Mrs Vicki Kingsnorth, educator, life member of both the New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association and Sydney North Schools Sports Association, mother and friend sadly passed away on 30 January 2008. Vicki’s career in education spanned in excess of thirty years where she worked diligently to provide the best educational opportunities for the students in her care. She was an outstanding teacher who began her career at Beacon Hill Primary School. Vicki exhibited a love for sport and in particular school sport from the beginning and throughout her years she became a strong advocate for the benefits of school sport. Her involvement with school sport at an administrative level commenced throughout the 1970’s when she was a member of the then Metropolitan North Regional Sports Committee. Her immense organisational ability was recognised when she was appointed to the position of Regional Sports Organiser for the Metropolitan North Region in 1985 – a position she held with distinction for the next three years. In 1988 Vicki became an integral member of the organising committee of the 1988 Pacific School Games (PSG) hosted in Sydney. Her ability to successfully handle the demands of an international event and work as a team member ensured the success of the 4th Pacific School Games. Following the “88 PSG” Vicki returned to Mona Vale School in 1989. She taught there until her retirement in 2002. Her students were fortunate to have a teacher who was enthusiastic and vibrant who challenged them to produce work of a high standard. She was a highly principled teacher with a great love of her profession and her students. She was always cheerful, friendly and totally supportive of teachers and students alike. Vicki’s love of school sport played a significant role in her career. Her involvement spanned from the school level to the zone, the region and the state. She was a member of the New South Wales Executive for over ten years where she worked tirelessly to promote school sport. Her passion gained her the respect of teachers not only throughout New South Wales but around Australia. As a member of the executive she provided strong leadership, guidance and advocacy. Since her retirement Vicki continued her support by attending each of the major championships to assist and coordinate the presentations with her colleague Marie Kelly. Vicki Kingsnorth was a remarkable lady who gave unselfishly to all that knew her. She worked tirelessly for the students of New South Wales and her guidance and commitment will live long in those who had the privilege to work with, know her and were fortunate enough to count her as a friend.
