Twelve teams will vie for the honour of being crowned champions at the NSWPSSA Rugby League Carnival to be held at Inverell from June 24 – 26. Jack Rogers (Burraneer Bay PS) is the son of Matt Rogers a well credentialed Wallaby. Jayden Walker (Laguna Street PS) is the son of Shane Walker, who was a front row player for the Tigers. Liam Coleman (Mascot PS) is the son of Craig Coleman who played half back for Souths. Lachlan Peachey (Woolooware PS) is the nephew of David Peachey who was one of the “greats” with Cronulla Sharks. Tiffany Baines (Ashcroft PS) has played in the Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League competition with the boys for five years. Next year Tiffany will have to stop playing with the boys because under New South Wales Rugby League rules when she turns 13 she can only play in organised girls’ competitions. Tiffany Baines is the current Ashcroft Public School captain and has represented the zone in Netball, Football, and Cross Country. Tiffany has also represented her region in Touch and will play hooker in the Rugby League team in Inverell. Also in the Sydney South West team is Liam Collenette (Ashcroft PS). Liam’s elder brother is making his way with the NRL team Cronulla in the lower grades at present. Riverina has the following players in their line up for the carnival. Kurt Bandy (Barellan Central School) has his elder brother Jay Bandy playing for Parramatta. Sam Keast (Sturt PS) is the son of Rick Keast, a former Country representative, the Coaching and Development Manager for Rugby League for the region. Campbell Lovell (Wagga South PS) has also played representative A.F.L., Rugby Union, Football, Cross Country and Basketball Hunter also has a couple of players with interesting connections to their team. Brody Burt (Floraville PS) is the nephew of Luke Burt a Parramatta star. Luke played in the winning Hunter team in 1992. Bobby Treacy (Barnsley PS) is the son of Darren Treacy who played with the Knights and St George. South Coast has the son of David Boyle a former player for Canberra in the team. Morgan Boyle (Quaamar PS) North West in the history of their side prior to this year has only ever had one eleven year old selected to play. This year the region also fields 2 eleven year olds. Jesse Ramien (Coonamble PS) Kiah McDonald (Gunnedah PS) has an elder brother at Gunnedah High School who has been identified and signed by the Roosters. Each region can field a side of 17 players. All the teams will be out to test themselves and whether they win or lose it will be an experience every one of these young players will cherish as a milestone in their school and sporting careers. | |
