064. NSWCHS Hockey Girls Head to Beijing |

NSWCHS has four women in the Australian team of sixteen to represent at the Beijing Olympics in August. The seventeenth alternate player is also a former Combined High Schools representative. All the girls have shown a huge commitment to their schools during their student years. Casey Eastham (Albion Park HS) at nineteen years of age is the youngest member of the Hockeyroos. Casey has represented her school in numerous sports. She was a member of the winning 14yrs and 15yrs relay teams for two years at the NSWCHS Athletics Championships. Casey also represented in Cross Country.
In recognition of her services to sport at Albion Park High School was awarded a special trophy. While at school Casey was also a recipient of the Pierre de Coubertin Award in 2006. Casey made her national debut at the 4 Nations Tournament in 2006. Kate Holllywood (Mortdale PS, Kirrawee HS) is a midfielder and twenty two years of age. Kate was School Captain of Mortdale Public School in 1997. Kate represented Kirrawee High School in swimming in her junior years. Kate also represented her school and NSWCHS at the All Schools Skiing Championships.
Over the last 4 years Kate Hollywood has travelled to 14 different countries playing hockey for Australia. Kate is studying PDHPE. Fiona Johnson (Pendle Hill HS) is also a sportswoman with an interest in a variety of sports. Fiona represented her school in Softball, Football, Water Polo and Cross Country.
Fiona was a brilliant all-round student at her school. Fiona studied Exercise and Sport Science at Sydney University. Melanie Wells (Sturt PS, Kooringal HS, Hurlstone Agricultural HS) was the sports girl of the year in her primary school. Melanie was in the Open Relay team that won a bronze medal at the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships. Melanie represented Riverina Region in Hockey, Softball, Tennis and Athletics. At an early age Melanie was showing enormous talent in sporting pursuits. Melanie represented Kooringal High School and Riverina Region in Softball, Touch and Hockey. This is in itself is a noteworthy achievement. To further her career in Hockey Melanie moved to Hurlstone Agricultural High School in year 11.
Toni Cronk (Padstow PS, East Hills GHS) is the alternative 17th player. Toni is a goal keeper. In high school Toni represented in Cricket, Football, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming and Hockey. Toni was very pro active in assisting at all levels of sport at her school. Toni represented Edmondson Zone in Football and Hockey. Toni was a recipient of the Sydney South West President’s Award.
NSWCHS acknowledges the remarkable achievements of these sports women and wishes them success in their endeavours in Beijing.
