Don’t Dismiss my Ability

This article acknowledges the wonderful contribution of the Sydney East AWD athletes to the Region at the recent NSWCHS Athletics Carnival.

Dylan Patman (Endeavour Sports HS) was identified as an up and coming athlete in the Paralympics Talent Development program.  He is a very talent athlete and shows a great deal of ability for the future if T20 and F20 intellectual disability athletes are again included in the Olympic Games program.

Natalie Evans (Endeavour Sport HS) performed outstandingly on the track winning Gold in the 800m and Silver in the 100m and 200m.  Natalie is visually impaired as well as having an intellectual disability.

Twins Stephanie Cole and Rachel Cole (Endeavour Sports HS) also competed at the NSWCHS Athletics Championships and show tremendous potential as reported by Mandy Robertson (Athletics Manager and Disability Officer for Sydney East School Sport).  It is interesting to note that at the recent NSWCHS Trampoline Sports Championships these two students competed very successfully.

Stephanie Cole won a Gold medal in the Single Mini Tramp and Silver in the Trampoline.

Rachel Cole won Silver in the Single Mini Tramp, a Bronze in the Trampoline and a Bronze in the Tumbling Routine.

Alex Hollis (Carinya School) has also been noted as an athlete with potential.

The contribution of the AWD athletes to the Regional Carnival and the NSWCHS State Carnival has been steadily growing.  This has been mainly due to the introduction of the Come Try program which has grown in popularity every year. The athletes are assimilating much better at the Regional and State carnivals and are gaining in confidence every year.  This promises well for our future Paralympics program.

Congratulations are extended to the athletes.
