London Wheelchair Marathon Victory to an Australian |
28 April 2009 |
|
Kurt Fearnley from the age of fourteen when he first started competing in wheelchair racing has been thoroughly committed to the sport with a burning ambition to be the best of the best. The London Wheelchair Marathon is the one marathon event in the world that had eluded Kurt Fearnley in the past two years. Kurt Fearnley, a former student of Carcoar PS/Blayney HS, competing on five continents had won every major Wheelchair Marathon except London up until April this year. In Athens and Beijing he won back to back gold medals in the Marathon. On Sunday April 26 Kurt Fearnley in a last minute race for the line defeated his British long-standing rival and set the new course record of 1m.28.57. His British rival had been aiming for his fourth title in a row. In a last minute dash for the line the honours went to Kurt who later commented on how thrilled he was to obtain the one title that had so far eluded him in his illustrious career. Congratulations are extended to Kurt Fearnley from NSWPSSA and NSWCHS on a magnificent victory.
