Esther Qin (Beverly Hills IEC) said when she was little her health wasn’t good so her parents sent her to a sport school in China. She says she was very scared of the water but her training teacher told her it was no good to be scared so she decided to have a go. At age eleven Esther started to learn to dive. At the age of twelve Esther attended a teenage competition in Xian and won 1st prize in the 1m Springboard, 2nd prize in the 3m Springboard and 1st prize in the 10m Platform. Esther struggled with an ear infection but in 2005 attended a National Carnival, a once in four year competition and came in 5th in 3m Synchronised Springboard competition. In 2006 Esther injured an ankle in training and stopped training for more than a year. Her family decided to come to Australia to live and arrived in Sydney in January 2009. Esther says that she really enjoys her school as she has been able to meet many students from different countries. Esther is learning English but at the carnival was also having fun giving tips on how to say hello in Chinese. Her ambitions are to represent Australia at the London Olympics and become a World Champion diver. Esther’s first competition since returning to training was at the recent NSWCHS Diving Championships at SIAC in Homebush. Esther Qin (Beverly Hills IEC) excelled at the Diving Meet. Esther came first in the Girls 17+ Years Springboard Diving with a score of 448.85. Esther was over two hundred and forty points in front of the next placed diver. Esther also won the Champion of Champions by a large margin. Congratulations to Esther on being awarded Diver of the Meet. | |
