|
Illawarra Sports High School student Caitlin Foord, at just seventeen years of age, is one of the promising new stars going through the ranks of Senior Women’s Football. Foord, who has represented South Coast Region in successive NSWCHS Football State Championships since starting school at Illawarra Sports six years ago, played in the Women’s A-League Competition for Sydney Football Club, and was selected and played for the Australian Women’s side at last year’s Fina World Cup in Germany. Foord was the youngest Australian player to represent her country at a World Cup, at the mere age of 16 years and 230 days. After her efforts during the World Cup campaign, Foord was awarded Hyundai Best Young Footballer. Foord also was a member of the Australian Schoolgirls’ Team that toured Japan and China in January of last year. More recently, Foord has knocked back an offer to play with Japanese power club INAC Kobe Leonessa FC, instead focusing on completing her Higher School Certificate whilst representing her country in the sport that she loves. This year’s New South Wales Combined High Schools Girls’ Football will be contested in Tomaree from 22-25 May.
