INTER-SCHOOL KNOCKOUT COMPETITION

Refer 'Knockout Competitions' - Section 5.2

(a)

ORGANISATION

New South Wales Combined High Schools Sports Association Hockey knockout competitions for both girls and boys are conducted by the Hockey sub-committee for competition between New South Wales Secondary Schools. All affiliated State Secondary Schools in New South Wales are eligible to compete.

(b)

ELIGIBILITY OF COMPETITORS

Any pupil may play in the respective competition providing they are a bona-fide pupil of school. No girl may take part in the boys knockout and no boy may take part in the girls knockout.

Each school may enter 1 team in each of the competitions.

(c)

THE DRAW

(i)

Refer 'The Draw' - Section 5.2.

(ii)

The final eight teams in each competition will play the quarter / semi-finals / finals at a central venue over two days decided by the Combined High Schools Hockey Convener.

(iii)

Each match shall be played on or before the date set down unless permission has been obtained from the Combined High Schools Hockey Convener. Failure to achieve a Regional Finalist by the due date, may lead to the forfeit of thatRegion’s position in the play-off rounds.

(iv)

For finals at the central venue, each of the eight teams must supply a qualified umpire (B badge or higher).

(d)

HOME SCHOOL

(i)

All rounds played to achieve the Regional winners will be played on a home and away basis unless a consolidated Areal knockout is held.

(ii)

Refer 'Determination of Home and Away Games' - Section 5.2.

(e)

1. DUTIES OF HOME SCHOOL

(i)

Refer 'Fixtures' - Section 5.2.

(ii)

Provide the best available playing surface (preferably turf) correctly marked in accordance with the A.H.A. and A.W.H.A. rules. The cost of grounds and facilities (especially where a synthetic surface is used) may be apportioned on a shared basis at the discretion of the home school.

(iii)

Both teams to supply a qualified umpire. If the visiting team can't fulfil this commitment, the Home team must supply both.

(iv)

Each team must supply a clean white ball or a colour agreeable to both teams and the umpire for each match.

(v)

The home school must wear a white shirt and/or white socks when a colour clash occurs.

(f)

RESULTS

(i)

Refer 'Results' - Section 5.2.

(ii)

Match cards are to be provided by the home team for each fixture.

(g)

RULES OF PLAY

(i)

All games are to be played according to the rules of the Australian Hockey Associations.

(ii)

The following apply to games other than the final:

Each match shall consist of thirty-five minute halves with a five minute interval.

Time out for injuries and other stoppages called by the umpires shall be added to the allowed time.

The interchange rule will apply for all matches.

(iii)

In the event of a draw at the conclusion of normal time a further two halves of six (6) minutes 'sudden death' extra time will be played, with the number of players used decreasing. The rules for 'extra time' will be as follows:

a)

At the conclusion of 'normal' playing time there will be a short break of two (2) minutes.

b)

For the first six (6) minutes, each team will nominate nine (9) players including a goalkeeper to take the field. Subject to rule 8 (iii) g below.

c)

At half time tams are to remove two (2) players and immediately change ends.

d)

For the second six (6) minutes, only seven (7) players each including a goalkeeper will take the field. Subject to rule 8 g below.

e)

Normal interchange rules will apply during extra time.

f)

The match concludes once the first goal has been scored and the scoring team wins the game (sudden death). If there is still no result at the conclusion of extra time, then a penalty stroke competition will be played.

Refer to FIH Rules for the conduct of a penalty stroke competition.

g)

For a team having a player under temporary suspension at the end of normal time, the offending team shall play with one less player for the duration of the temporary suspension; and for a team having a player under permanent suspension at the end of normal time, the offending team shall play with one less player for the duration of extra time.

(iv)

If a consolidated Regional knockout is to be held, the following conditions will apply:

• All rules of play previously listed.
• Where there are more than six teams taking part, the Regional knockout must be held over more than one day.
• Teams playing matches on the same day must receive at least one hour's break between matches.
• The draw must be followed.
• Results of matches must be forwarded as in (f) Results.

(v)

Each competition shall be completed following the rules of play that were in operation at the beginning of the competition.

(h)

FINAL MATCH

(i)

Rules of play point (ii) above will apply.

(ii)

If the match is drawn on goals, an extra ten minutes each way shall be played after a five minute interval. Such extra time will be played without an interval.

(iii)

If the match is, after extra time, still drawn on goals, then a penalty stroke play-off as laid down by A.H.A.

(i)

PROTESTS

(i)

Forwarded to the Regional Hockey Convener for rounds 1-6.

(ii)

Protests must be signed by the Principal of the protesting school.

(iii)

Protests will be dealt with by the relevant Disputes Committee.

(j)

SUSPENDED PLAYERS

(i)

All players sent from the field for the duration of the game must be reported to the Combined High Schools Hockey Convener.

(ii)

The officiating umpire shall submit a report to the Combined High Schools Hockey Convener.

(iii)

The minimum penalty shall be one Combined High Schools match suspension.

(l)

PUBLICITY

(i)

Area Conveners are to be notified the time and location of matches.

(ii)

Coverage of games by local press, radio and television should be encouraged.

(iii)

If possible, forward results of matches to A.A.P. after each game.

(m)

SPORT SAFETY

(i)

Strongly recommended that coach of a school team, hold the minimum standard of Level O under the National Coaching accreditation Scheme.

(ii)

Strongly recommended that all players wear approved shin protectors / guards and mouth guards.

(iii)

Goal-keepers must wear as part of their protective equipment an AHA approved helmet at all times. Should a Goalkeeper be incapacitated, suspended or substituted by a field player, who assumes the privileges of a goalkeeper, this nominated player must wear full protective equipment all times.

(ie. leg guards, kickers, helmet-face mask, protector and chest protector).

(iv)

Any player who suffers a BLEEDING injury during a match must be inter-changed immediately. They may not return to the field until the bleeding has stopped or the injury is covered with a suitable dressing.

6.11.2

STATE CARNIVAL

Refer 'State Carnivals' - Section 5.3

(a)

RULES

All games shall be played according to the rules of the Australian Hockey Associations except where amended below.

(b)

ENTRIES

Each Region may enter a team consisting of no more than fourteen players, at the open age level. Each Region is entitled to send a student umpire as well as the fourteen players. Such umpires must be qualified and their name nominated to the CHS Hockey Convener prior to the Championship for acceptance.

(c)

ORGANISATION

(i)

The competing teams shall be seeded into two pools according to the ranking gained in the previous year. Each team will play all other teams in that pool.

(ii)

Ranking of teams in pools shall be:

• Pool A: 1, 4, 5, 8, 9
• Pool B: 2, 3, 6, 7, 10

(iii)

All players must wear the Region uniform CLEARLY NUMBERED. Players shall retain the same number for all matches.

(iv)

Ranking matches will be played to determine final placings, ie:

• 5^th Pool A v 5^th Pool B
• 4^th Pool A v 4^th Pool B
• 3^rd Pool A v 3^rd Pool B
• 1^st Pool A v 2^nd Pool B (Match 1)
• 2^nd Pool A v 1^st Pool B (Match 2)

The ranking for 3^rd and 4^th place shall be decided as follows:

• points from pool matches at the end of rounds
• goal difference at the end of rounds
• most goals scored
• penalty stroke playoff as per AHA.

Final

(v)

NSWCHS Hockey State carnivals, where ever possible be conducted in regions where a synthetic surface is available.

(d)

DURATION OF GAMES

(i)

Where possible, all games shall consist of thirty-five minute halves with a five minute break between halves. The final shall consist of thirty five minute halves with a five minute break between halves.

(ii)

Matches will be timed a central control point.

(iii)

Time out shall be permitted only in the final.

(iv)

Placings will be determined on the basis of 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss.

(v)

Where points are tied, the placings will be determined as follows:

• Higher goals difference (goals for-goals against)
• Most goals scored
• Winner of round match
• Penalty stroke play-off

(vi)

If ranking matches are drawn then a penalty stroke play-off shall be played, as laid down by the A.H.A., until a winner is decided.

If a semi-final or final is drawn, an extra five minutes each way shall be played. If the match is still drawn, a penalty stroke play-off shall decide the match.

(vii)

Each team must supply a clean white ball or a colour agreeable to both teams and the umpire for each match.

(viii)

A forfeit, which may be claimed five minutes after the starting signal providing the match has not commenced, will be recorded as a 3-0 win to the team ready to play.

(ix)

Any protest must be lodged with the Carnival Committee at the conclusion of the final game on that day or immediately after the match is held on the final day. Such protests will be heard and ruled upon by the Carnival Committee whose decision will be final.

(x)

The interchange rule shall apply for all matches.

(xi)

Bike pants may be worn under playing uniform but must be the same colour as shorts / skirts or flesh coloured (A.H.A. Ruling).

(e)

SUSPENDED PLAYERS

Any player permanently suspended in a match must report immediately after the match to the Carnival Committee. At the discretion of the Committee, the player may be suspended from further matches in Championships.

(f)

MATCH CARDS

(i)

Each team will be issued with match cards for all matches.

(ii)

The appropriate card is to be presented to the umpires at the beginning of the game and brought to the control centre at the completion of the match by umpires.

(g)

SELECTORS

(i)

A panel of three selectors shall be elected at the meeting held prior to the first day of the Championships.

(ii)

If the team to be selected has representative playing commitments, then the Coach of that team will be a fourth selector and chairperson of the selection panel.

(iii)

At least one selector will come from each pool.

(h)

TEAM NOMINATIONS

(i)

Team lists shall be submitted to the Region, Combined High Schools Convener and host Region.

(ii)

Team lists shall contain for each member, name, school, school year, age, playing number, home address, home telephone number, parents initials and medicare number.

(iii)

It is recommended that each team bring an alternate pair of socks.

(i)

SPORT SAFETY

(i)

(ii)

Strongly recommended that all players wear approved shin protectors/guards and mouth guards.

(iii)
