The Next Generation

 

The course will target young permanent teacher interested in PSSA sport.
To develop staff as Sports Coordinators within their school.


Ongoing Benefits:
To encourage young teachers through the understanding of how the PSSA functions.
Teachers becoming more confident implementing school and zone sport programs
Provide information, guidelines and clarification of what is expected when conducting sport.
Promote safe sport practices.
Develop a common code of behaviour (players, parents and spectators) for all WSPSSA schools.

To increase student participation in PSSA sport


Implementation:

Session 1:

  • Conducting school base sports programs in conjunction with PSSA teams.
    Developing a resource, in conjunction with our website, that seeks the needs of teachers in what they require to conduct Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country K-6
  • Conducting tabloid Athletics, involving events required for the Zone Carnival eg Long and High Jump
  • Duties of Carnival Officials
  • Overview of the PSSA structure.
Session 2:
  • Responsibilities of elected conveners
  • Development of material for website to assist conveners eg proformas, draws that cover any number of teams, point scoring in competitions with a bye and wet weather.
  • Functions of the Zone Association
  • Development of a 'how to' manual for Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country conveners.
Session 3:
  • This will be a 'hands on' session guiding the participants through our website, the School Sport Unit website and relevant sites such as coaching accreditation, state and national sporting associations, sporting suppliers etc.

Evaluation:

Evaluation sheets will be available for each session. In addition on going evaluation/surveys will take place in June and November.
