SECTION 6.4 - CRICKET KNOCKOUT COMPETITION

6.4.1 Refer to General Knockout Rules
6.4.2 RULES AND CONDITIONS
  (a) Competition is to be on an open primary age basis, i.e. pupils must be thirteen (13) years or under in the year of the competition.
    (i) A team will consist of 11 players, however, a batting twelfth (12th) man can be named prior to the commencement of the game to enable 12 players to participate in the match. This player may bowl and keep wicket but not bat. The umpire will be informed.
  (b) DURATION OF PLAY
    (i) Matches shall be no more than fifty (50) overs. The team batting first shall bat for twenty-five (25) overs unless dismissed beforehand. The team batting second shall be entitled to no more than twenty-five (25) overs. The team scoring the greater number of runs shall be declared the winner.
    (ii) Boys: All overs to consist of six (6) legitimate deliveries.
Girls: All overs to be a maxium of eight (8) ball if six (6) legitimate deliveries have not been bowled.
    (iii) If play is terminated for the day because of weather, before the side batting second has received fifteen (15) overs, the match will be replayed at the earliest possible date.
    (iv) If play is terminated for the day, because of weather, and the side batting second has received fifteen (15) completed overs or more a result will be obtained. It will be obtained by a comparison of runs scored, by both teams, at the completion of the same number of overs. This means that the scorebooks must show the progressive total, for both teams, at the completion of the 15th over and each over afterwards.
  (c)

TIED GAMES
In the event of a tie (except for the final) the team which has lost the least numbers of wickets shall be declared the winner (batsmen who had to retire will not be regarded as out). Where both sides have lost the same number of wickets, the school which received the least number of deliveries in scoring their runs shall be declared the winner. Where both sides have faced the same number of deliveries, the team which has bowled the least number of wides and no-balls shall be declared the winner.

  (d) A maximum of three consecutive overs per spell shall be allowed. Bowlers may bowl no more than five overs each.

The break between spells will be the equivalent number of overs bowled from the same end as the bowler's immediately concluded spell.

  (e) Batsmen shall retire after the first scoring shot which brings their total to forty (40) runs or more and shall not return to bat during the game.
  (f) Matches are to be played on a turf, matting, glazed concrete, malthoid, synthetic or a mutually acceptable wicket where these surfaces are unavailable.
  (g) Balls used are to be 142g two (2) piece leather of a recognised brand.
  (h) A synthetic cricket ball may be used on a concrete wicket if mutually agreed to by both schools.
  (i) Any delivery that passes above the shoulder of a batsman in his normal batting stance shall be called a "no ball".
  (j) No fieldsman allowed to field within ten (10) metres of the batsman on strike except within an area from point to wicketkeeper on the off side of the wicket.
(k) Batsmen/women must wear a properly fitting batting helmet. The wicketkeeper must wear such a helmet when standing up to the stumps.
  (l) Sanctions in Law 42.7b.c (ii) (iii)) (iv) - Dangerous and unfair bowling, as applies to 42.6b - do not apply.
6.4.3 DUTIES OF HOME SCHOOL
  (a) Provide the best wicket available as per Rule 2 (f). Where the home school cannot provide any of these surfaces, the home school will become the visiting school. If neither school can provide these surfaces, then the match can be played on a mutually acceptable surface.
  (b) Provide certificated umpires where possible. Should only one (1) certificated umpire be available the Manager of the batting side will umpire from square leg.
Where no certificated umpires are available the Team Managers will share the umpiring duties.
  (c) Certificated umpires will be provided for semi-final and final matches.
6.4.4 PENNANTS
Fourteen (14) pennants will be presented to the winning team and fourteen (14) to the runners-up on the day of the final, plus one (1) pennant for each Team Coach and one (1) pennant for each school.
