Ultimate Frisbee

THE TEAM

  1. As Ultimate Frisbee is designed to be a self –regulated game (no referees) team captains have an important role in determining many aspects of the game such as length of halves and time outs. Any variations to the rules must be agreed upon by both captains prior to the commencement of a game.
  2. Players organise themselves on the field and may call any fouls during the match. Supervision is required to ensure that all players participate in the spirit of the game.
  3. Seven players take the field for each team.

THE FIELD

The field is approx. 70mx 40m with endzones 25m deep. Variations to this may occur using half soccer fields if necessary.

THE GAME

  1. Games consist of 2 x 15 minute halves. One time out is allowed per half for each team. The player with the disc may call the timeout at any time or any player may call time if a goal has been scored.
  2. The aim of the game is for the offensive team to catch the Frisbee on the full within its attacking endzone. This is called “scoring a goal”.
  3. A coin toss determines which team will elect to:
    1. receive the disc or
    2. defend a certain endzone
  4. Play commences with each team standing in their endzones until the disc is released and the receiving team moves to the spot where the disc comes to rest or is caught on the full.
  5. An offensive player then attempts to pass the disc to a team mate with the aim of reaching the team’s attacking endzone.
  6. A thrower cannot run with the disc, cannot pass to him/herself and has 10 seconds to dispose of it with the marker calling the time.
  7. If the disc is held too long then the defensive team takes possession.
  8. If it is dropped between players or thrown out of bounds then the defending team takes up possession at the point where the disc lands or passes over the line.
  9. Substitutions may occur after a goal is scored, during an injury time-out or at a commonly agreed upon moment.
  10. Each goal is worth one point.
  11. After a goal the scoring team stands on that endzone line and throws the disc out into the field of play where the receiving team begins the next phase of the game.
  12. A defender who must stand at least 1m from the thrower and double teaming defence is not allowed.
  13. If jumping to receive a disc an offensive player has the right to return safely to ground directly below them or to a spot not already occupied by any other player.
  14. No defensive player may strip the disc from the hands of the thrower or place their arms above the head of the thrower.

INFRINGEMENTS

  1. 1.Fouls result from contact when players attempt to gain a positional advantage or block an opponent.
  2. A foul can only be called by the player who was fouled and it must be called immediately.
  3. All players must freeze until turnover or play on is determined by players involved.
