The current enrolment is 521. The breakdown of the student population is 247 K-2 students, 274 Year 3-6 with 4% of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander descent. The boy, girl ratio is 277/244. The rate of student mobility over the past 12 months has been 6.65%. The experienced, stable staff of 25 is committed to maximising quality outcomes for sporting commitment and experiences. The average age of the staff is 40 years bringing a wide variety of experiences within the realm of sport. Staff experience in both school and community sports ranges from having school sport experience through to recognised coaching qualifications in Netball, Basketball, Swimming, Gymnastics, Rugby League, Surf Life Saving, general coaching as well as a teacher of dance. The staff experience also includes two (2) staff members being highly involved in PSSA as committee members, delegates and holding executive positions, both having State Manager and Coach experience as well as being State Carnival Conveners. All students are involved in regular daily fitness (DF) and physical education (PE) sporting programs with Years 3-6 participating in weekly sporting programs and activities. RESOURCES
Resources are allocated to the Sports Program through the Annual Budget.
Priority allocation is based on staff review of needs and wants submitted
by the PDHPE Committee.
Resources are allocated to sport to accommodate the development of a “Sport for All” Program. This is in the form of equipment (game and safety), book resources to support program, financial assistance for staff to upgrade qualifications and for training and development. Community resources are allocated to support and supplement expertise within the staffing of sports skills and development activities.
Training and Development opportunities are provided to staff through sport and recreation or Department of Education and Training Professional Development Days. Opportunities also arise through community sporting bodies for gaining/renewing or upgrading sport specific Level Certificates.
COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
Community involvement occurs in a variety of ways to support the school
sports programs. They include:
·Parental support through coaching expertise,
assistance in running sporting activities and events and transportation
to and from sporting activities.
·Local Sports Clubs providing coaching clinics,
referees to support skill development, as well as promotinG game awareness.
·Local coaches (tennis, swimming, athletics,
AFL) who are involved in training of school teams as well as supporting
staff in implementing sports training programs.
·A tennis coach who provides coaching free of
charge to our state Knockout team, supports other students within the
school through lunch time coaching sessions. Hard Court Tennis Team support,
as well as providing trophies for School Tennis Championships.
