SCHOOL
DESCRIPTION
Ulladulla Public School is a large school of approximately 770 students
on the South Coast of New South Wales. Students generally come from Ulladulla
and towns further to the south. Over 300 students travel by bus.
In
2000, a major building program was completed. This included a multipurpose
hall and a covered outdoor learning area and canteen. A fixed equipment
area was provided from funds raised by the P&C and Ladies Auxiliary.
The
student population is affected by mobility. In 2001, there were one hundred
new enrolments excluding kindergarten and a similar number of students
left the school. There are 27 classes that are organised on a parallel
basis. The majority of students are from an English speaking background.
The
school has an experienced staff which takes an active interest in the
physical as well as academic and social development of the students.
Daily fitness is a feature of school programs and many staff take an active
role in school sport through coaching teams and assisting with the organisation
of carnivals and sporting events. The emphasis has been on providing
a balance between the sporting and academic pursuits of students.

RESOURCES
The PD, PE and Health Committee are allocated a budget each year. An
“Action Plan” from the previous year is scrutinised to determine how much
money will be allocated. Levies, trophies and equipment are paid for
through this budget. The Committee, Grade Supervisors, and team coaches
are responsible for notifying the Committee Chairman who then usually
orders the equipment.
COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
Parents assist in swimming lessons, carnivals, weekly sport and fund raising.
Local clubs will sometimes help with skills development. Eg. Aussie Rules,
Rugby Union, Rugby League, Cricket, Netball.
OTHER
SPORTING OPPORTUNITIES
We have 10 state knock-out teams each year. Girls and boys cricket, girls
and boys softball, girls and boys basketball, girls and boys soccer, netball
and rugby league.
Development
officers visit from:
AFL
– Australian rules, CRL – Country rugby league, NSW Cricket reps, Netball.
REASONS
FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM
A policy on total participation.
Swimming carnival – 2 pools – competitive swimmers and non
competitive swimming events.
Athletics
– children rotate through 10 stations. Finalists are worked out during
term 2. There is a repechage event for all those that don’t reach the
finals.
State Knock-out teams – children can only try out for one
summer team and one winter team, thus maximising participation.
