| SCHOOL DESCRIPTION West Ryde Public School balances an academic focus with an emphasis on promoting appreciation of, and respect for, a variety of cultures. Two community languages, Mandarin and Hindi, are taught in the school in addition to English. Our school community participates in a variety of cultural activities and festivals. There is considerable parent involvement in the School and all student activities are well attended. An experienced staff which works particularly well as a team is a feature of the School. The school has 340 students, 75% of whom are from a non-English speaking background. Many of our students live in units where facilities for physical activity are limited. The teachers at West Ryde are experienced with an average age in the early forties. All teachers are general primary or secondary trained. We do not have any specialist sport training. WEEKLY

RESOURCES
Sport activities have been identified and resources have been purchased
to support those activities. School sport is funded separately from inter-school
sport.
The
PD/H/PE Committee applies to the Finance Committee for what it needs.
This year $1,700 was allocated, $250 to PSSA resources, $500 to school
sport resources and $950 to Dance. Varies each year.
Most
training and development occurs when staff work together. Some training
from District Consultants.
COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
Very little community involvement as most parents work full-time.
OTHER
SPORTING OPPORTUNITIES
We welcome offers of clinics, etc. We have had a cricket clinic, girls’
soccer clinic, training in AFL.
REASONS
FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM
Careful planning of activities and adequate resourcing.
Teacher
commitment to physical well being in general, and to a program with which
they are comfortable, in particular.
Student
enjoyment and SUCCESS.
