Whole School Sport Programs For Secondary Schools

Introduction
Throughout 2001, the School Sport Unit has been conducting a project to identify successful whole school sport programs operating in Secondary and CentralSchools around New South Wales.

The project was coordinated by Mr Ross Morrison, Assistant Manager, School Sport Unit with Ms Janelle Eldridge, retired Principal – Greystanes High School and NSW Combined High Schools Sport Association Life Member acting as the project officer.

The Management Panel selected 20 whole school sport program for publication on the School Sport Unit Website. These programs come from a diverse range of secondary and central schools and highlight the options available to schools in meeting their school communities needs.

Many impressive programs were overlooked this time for a variety of reasons. This site and project will remain dynamic with regular rotation of successful programs. Thank you to the Principals and Sport Coordinators who participated in this project.

Successful Whole School Sport Programs

For the purpose of this project the following definitions are provided on sport type
Integrated – sport is organised in class groups and taught predominantly by the PDHPE faculty.
Scattered – sport is timetabled for separate groups (Years) throughout the normal school week.
Grade – sport competition occurs weekly against local schools in the Sporting Zone.
Recreation – an physical activity that is non competitive eg weight training, aerobic fitness.
Traditional – sport is organised to occur at a standard weekly time eg Wednesday afternoon.
