Phillip Street SCHOOL DESCRIPTION Molong Central School is located in the central west area of New South Wales. With a total student population of 425, the school and its community are committed to "providing opportunities for personal achievement" for all students Kindergarten to Year 12. This is achieved through a provision of: a broad and balanced curriculum and co-curricular program which caters for the needs of individual students; nurturing and motivating the "whole child" through extensive student welfare structures, educational programs and networks; fostering of partnerships between the school and its community and effective communication linking all sections of the school community. The year 2000 saw major achievements by students in the sporting arena. Two students represented Western Area in Athletics whilst one student represented the Area in U15 Rugby League. Three students visited China as part of the Western Institute of Sport Softball team and another student was a member of the NSW U18 Hockey Team which won the Australian Championships in Melbourne. One student was selected to carry the Olympic Torch in Cowra whilst a second student acted as a torch escort runner in Molong. The school competed in the annual Rural Cup against Oberon and Canowindra High Schools with Canowindra narrowly winning the competition held in Molong. SPORTS ORGANISATION Sports Program Contact Doug Chrystall Sport Coordinator or Murray Paterson, Principal. Secondary students are involved in a traditional sports program conducted on a Wednesday afternoon each week. Traditional sports are offered to students as follows: Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Golf, Netball, Rugby League, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball and Walking. The following sports are offered if there is a need to implement the Wet Weather Sports Program: Aerobics, Carpet Bowls, Chess, Indoor Hockey and Volleyball. Students Students are given a list of sports available and make their own choice in a preferential manner. Most students get their first preference. Students are actively encouraged to choose different sports to attain a range of experiences. At least one team sport must be chosen each year. As all venues are in the school or town there is no cost for sport. Staff Negotiation takes place between the Sport Coordinator and members of staff when allocating staff to sports for which they are most qualified or which they desire to take. Staff is actively encouraged to gain qualifications. Three staff members have attended Accreditation Courses in Athletics and actively support athletics as officials at Combined High Schools. These staff members also acted as officials at the 2000 Pacific School Games with one member being appointed as an official at the Olympic Athletic Trials. Each year involves a home and away visit. Approximately 110 students are involved in teams for the visits, which represents 50% of the secondary school. This competition is known as the Rural Cup. The program has been in place for 25 years and is a very successful component of the school sports program. Students are billeted during the visit, which gives students an opportunity to mix socially. The following sports are contested during the visits.
