OTHER SPORT INVOLVEMENT

Knockouts and Gala Days

Approximately 20% of students are involved in Knockouts and approximately 20% - 30% of the staff members. All teams train during lunchtime and / or after school

Grafton South High also takes part in Gala Days organised by Rugby Union, Rowing and Hockey.

The school Hockey Team plays as a team in the weekend competition and has won A Grade for 2 out of the past 3 years. Staff coach and train teams and parents manage them. Five members of the staff coach as well as play for the school. There is a Great Atmosphere surrounding the participation of staff and students in this competition.

Community Involvement

Community members are used in the Year 9-11 sport program and as referees / umpires for Knockouts.

SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM

Sport is part of the overall School Management Plan and is recognised in the Student Welfare Policy. Sport is recognised as a subject in the school with space provided on all reports. If students are not performing in sport then letters of concern are sent to parents. The school executive are fully committed to the current program and the Head Teacher PDHPE is responsible for sport. Only qualified teachers are allocated to sport. The PE staff take the Year 7 & 8 integrated sport program. In addition 11 other teachers who have the appropriate qualifications take sport. The Head Teacher PDHPE allocates these teachers in conjunction with other Head Teachers. The Principal and Sport Coordinator have undertaken a Risk Assessment for the Safe Conduct of Sport and Physical Activity.

Some Year 11 students are involved in an alternative sports model based on a system of accreditation, which is monitored constantly by the Sport Coordinator. This has proved to be successful in ensuring that students are involved in some form of physical activity during the week.

School is active in the community with a Rowing Club and a Hockey Club. The school is looking to conduct some sport competition against Grafton High in the near future. This is now possible since the two schools now have sport on the same day. Some interschool competition has taken place and the Apollo Cup has been reintroduced.
