New South Wales Team Performance
The NSW team displayed an excellent attitude on and off the field. Simply, their skill level was high and with an outstanding work ethic the team was always going to be competitive with every game played in accordance with the players’ Code of Behaviour and Safe Play Rules. The team was keen to learn more about the game of Rugby League, listening closely and attentively during every training session. At no stage was there a behavioural issue. On the field all players strived to do their best not only for their state but for their regions, zones and schools. They were rewarded with a tenacious and hard fought win over a determined Queensland team. Congratulations to the players for their success and indeed Mr Gavin Holmes, coach and Mr Brendan Barber, trainer for their high level of expertise in their respective areas.
Equipment and Uniforms
All players possessed two state jerseys and they were attired appropriately at all times. They looked very smart in their shirts, ties and trousers for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as for the photograph session.
General Comments
The carnival was a success due to superb organisation by the carnival and championship convenor Glyn Sargent, ACT Executive Officer Mark Sterland, Billeting Officer Jonathan Tucker and other committee members Jason Walmsley, Gerard Elias and Steve Keir. The National Secretary of School Sport Australia Mr Des Guy was in attendance for the duration of the week.
The venue of West Belconnen Leagues Club and its adjacent fields was most suitable and a great carnival/championship atmosphere was experienced. The accommodation was comfortable and in reasonable proximity to the venue.
