NEW SOUTH WALES PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CARNIVAL REPORT – 2009 CARNIVAL: Tennis - Bruce Cup VENUE: Peake Gardens and Millswood Tennis Centre, Adelaide DATES: 12th – 19th September 2009 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION: Ten Pin Bowling RESULTS
FINAL PLACINGS COMMENT ON TEAM PERFORMANCE The team performed creditably considering the loss of three players due to withdrawal and injury prior to departing. The close encouter with Western Australia, while a disappointing result, was a tremendous match. The Western Australian Team was their strongest to attend the Bruce Cup. The New South Wales team performed as one unit against stronger opposition but played with spirit and courage. The support provided by parents was exceptional and made for a very enjoyable exchange. Special mention should be made of Jack Whittaker who had to withdraw from the team two weeks prior to the team's departure. His family attended and Jack was a great team member. His continual support and willingness to be involved was recognised with the presentation of a School Sport Australia sportsmanship medal. NEW SOUTH WALES PSSA TEAM
EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS The NSWPSSA Team Uniforms looked very smart. The support of Mrs Rhonda Butt in ensuring all students had their apparel, with the changes made to the team, was greatly appreciated. The introduction of the girls' skirts was successful as was the "capped sleeve" tennis shirt. GENERAL COMMENTS The 2009 Bruce Cup Tennis Exchange was very successful. Members of the New South Wales Team were fine ambassadors of their state and school. The team moulded into a cohesive unit that received magnificent support from the parents. They were at all times positive in their support and respectful of all teams. One of the highlights of the week was the daily newsletter produced and ciculated by Janet Harper. These included photos and results of each day's play and was a great keepsake for those who featured. The team captains, Zoe Barton and Kevin Shu, performed their duties with distinction. The level of competition was outstanding and the New South Wales girls were excellent ambassadors for our state both on and off the field. They were also supported by their parents to make the exchange very enjoyable. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Mrs Janet Harper - Championship Convener Mr Jan Walznak - Referee Mr John Ferguson - National Tennis Secretary Patricia Sherring
