GENERAL COMMENTS:
- Pre-carnival organisation from RSO (Ross Fuller) ensured that all aspects of the carnival were able to run smoothly. Carnival Manager (Ken Kermode) and Assistant Carnival Manager (Greg Best) ensured that daily organisational matters were handled very well, including assisting with the sale of over $6000 worth of apparel. Clay tennis courts were also prepared and made playable each day.
- Canberra is an excellent venue, with 24 courts. Excellent weather (apart from one foggy morning) assisted in the schedule of matches continuing on time.
- Two new team managers (North West, Western) were assisted by the more experienced team managers during the carnival.
- No students required billeting, meaning all teams had strong parental support each day.
- Competitors umpired their own matches as in past years. In general children are able to cope with this added responsibility with disagreements about scoring or line calls kept to a minimum and where needed handled well by team managers.
- Behaviour of students on and off court was generally very good
- Parents were informed of School Sport Code of Conduct at Opening Ceremony. Parent “behaviour” and support was very good over the four days.
- Bill Summerside (South Coast Team Manager) is retiring after 21 years in the role. Bill was acknowledged at the Official Dinner and during the Presentations at the end of the carnival for his contribution to School Sport and in particular the sport of tennis.
