Selection Policy: For athletes unable to compete at the Sydney East Regional Cross Country Carnival, consideration to be selected into the Regional team to compete at the NSWCHSSA Carnival may be made if:
1. Competing at another school based carnival or competition The athlete is competing at another school based competition of equal or higher standard. They may be also representing Sydney East, NSW or Australia and be unable to return from that competition in time to compete. The Regional Convener and/or the Regional Sports Organiser must receive the request at least 1 week prior to the carnival.
2. Injury prior to the carnival or illness on the day or injury during competition The athlete is injured or ill and unable to compete on the day of the carnival. A medical certificate detailing the injury or illness and an indication of when the athlete will be fit to return to competition must be provided. The Regional Convener and/or the Regional Sports Organiser must receive the request no later than 8.30am on the morning prior to the competition. This is to ensure that all students running in the event at the Regional Cross Country Carnival will be informed if there is a submission that has been accepted resulting in a reduced number of students being selected for that age group to compete at the NSWCHSSA Carnival. In both instances, the athlete is expected to have competed at the Zone level to be considered for selection into a Regional team. The absent/injured student must inform their Zone Convenor who will submit the relevant information along with a letter indicating the following:
a) a reason for consideration
b) an indication of current performances in Cross Country competitions
c) the students’ full name, age, date of birth, School and Zone
d) endorsement by signature of the Zone Convener and School Principal
CONSIDERATION of ENTRY by SUBMISSION APPLICATION FORM will only be accepted on the downloaded form provided.
Please note: A request for consideration of entry by submission does not necessarily result in a student being selected in the Regional team to compete at the NSWCHSSA Carnival. The athlete making a submission for consideration of entry will be notified in writing of the decision as to their inclusion in the Sydney East Country Team prior to the NSWCHSSA Cross Country Carnival.
NSWCHSSA Championships: The Sydney East Team to compete at the NSWCHSSA State Championships will be selected and announced following the Regional Championships. They will be held on Friday 31 July, 2009 at Eastern Creek Raceway, Eastern Creek. The selection of the Regional Team will be advised.
Other Details:
1) School team events will be conducted in each age group.
2) School teams will comprise 4 runners with the first 3 to count. A school team must be selected from the winning school in each age group at their Zone Championships.
3) Zone teams who enter a school team in an event may run a maximum of 12 runners including the school team runners. Zones that do not enter school teams may run up to 10 runners.
4) Zone team colours are to be worn by all runners. Additional school team identification will be worn by those runners.
Officials: Applications are called for officials. Casual relief is available for successful applicants. The official Teacher Application Form must be completed and returned by Friday 5 June, 2009.
